As a kid, I absolutely loved reading the magical, mystical Choose Your Own Adventure books. The thrill of making choices always kept me glued to the pages. I wasn’t surprised to learn that those old adventure books were a huge hit with my English learners, too.
As an ESL teacher, I’m always looking to bring something fresh and exciting to my ESL classroom. My students loved reading the CYOA books, so why not have them try writing one? And that’s how Click-Tales was born. This writing activity is a dynamic blend of a favorite childhood book with today’s powerful generative AI and design software.

What’s Included
The Click Tales template is an easy-to-use resource that helps you create your own clickable adventure stories on Canva. The template comes with:
- A pre-made story structure.
- Printable Worksheets to guide students through the process.

How It Works
Students work individually or in groups. You can start with an introduction to the original CYOA books, or jump right into the story. It’s YOUR choice!
When students are ready to write, distribute the worksheets to guide them. The writing activity is executed in 5 parts:
- Choose Your Own Story Setting:
- Create a story based on any theme that suits your class, like a jungle adventure, space exploration, or underground excavation.
- Choose Your Own Character
- Are you a scientist working to save the planet from a virus? Or are you a zoologist searching for the missing link? Choose any character you can dream up!
- Write Your Story
- Work in groups or independently author your story. Templates are included for each choice and alternate ending scenario.
- Illustrate Your Story
- Let the fun begin! Students can illustrate their stories using generative AI images. From a dragon’s lair to an undersea exploration, AI can bring any adventure to life with the click of a button.
- Share and Shine!
- These stories will delight readers from your own classroom, but why stop there? You can showcase these stories on parent night, graduation day, or in online communication. Simple download the view link, and share away!
